Mary Todd Lincoln
Mary Todd Lincoln
Photo taken by William H. Mumler, who died in 1884. Mumler was a well known early spiritualist who took many “ghost” photos during his career. Prior to this he worked as an engraver, which brought suspicion upon his ghost images. This shot features Mary Todd Lincoln, under the alias of “Mrs. Tundall”. Mrs. Lincoln was known to have traveled through the East in search of a medium to put her in contact with her dead husband. This photo was taken in Boston and became quite famous during its day.

The Brown Lady
Taken in 1936 by Country Life photographers Captain Provand and Indre Shira. The location was the lovely and historic Raynham Hill in England. It is rumored to be Lady Dorothy Walpole, who may have died from smallpox. Of coarse, she may also have been pushed down the stairs by her husband after the rumor of an affair too!!

Lord Combermere
This photo was snapped by Sybell Corbett in 1891, Cheshire, England. The photographer knew no one else was in the library when it was taken, requiring an hour long exposure. A family member later identified the ghostly appearance as that of Lord Combermere, who had died some time earlier but was known to have spent a great deal of time in that room while alive. This image was cropped to show a close up of the chair.

Night has patterns that can be read less by the living than by the dead.
A gasp of breath, a sudden death: the tale begun.
To know the darkness is to love the light, to welcome dawn and fear the coming night.
Night can be sweet as a kiss, though not a night like this
